Rockabilly legend Jackson gears up for a comeback on the White-produced album The Party Ain’t Over.
With her new album The Party Ain’t Over, Elvis Presley protégé Wanda Jackson is gearing up for a big comeback: The rockabilly great scored an assist from Jack White, who produced the album for his Third Man Records label. One of the highlights is a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Thunder on the Mountain,” and the pair have just dropped a video for the tune. Check it out below.
Jackson says the idea to cover the song came from the Bard himself. “Jack wanted me to do a Bob song,” she told Spinner. “They’re longstanding friends and Bob suggested ‘Thunder on the Mountain.’” The duo don’t take too many liberties with Dylan’s original, although White’s Third Man House Band add some brassy horn stabs and Jackson switches up Dylan’s original shout-out to Alicia Keys with one for Jerry Lee Lewis.
The clip, meanwhile, is awesomely frills-free – it’s just Jackson, White, and the band tearing it up in what looks like the basement rec room of an Elks Lodge – and they all look to be having a total blast, despite the cheesy linoleum floors, faux-wood paneling, and soul-sucking fluorescent lighting.
