YOUR HEAD ESSPLODE

While you were sleeping, the people at Sony posted Fiona Apple’s new video to her Facebook page. It’s fitting that this was released to the Internet at 2 a.m. EST—the video itself is like a harrowing anxiety dream. Fiona plays with a hula doll, then she is the doll. She throws fish to a hungry alligator, then finds herself swimming in a gravity-defiant pool (and then finds herself paddling on land, covered in snails—and defying gravity here once more). She’s cuddled by a faceless, skinless body, then curls up in bed with a man with a goat’s head. Strands of light beaming from Fiona’s heart chakra act as marionette strings in another scene, reference the temporal anomalies Fi has talked about in recent interviews, and reminds us of all that’s going on inside her idler wheel. Sometimes it takes you seven years to put out a record. But sometimes you’ve got ALL THIS going on in your head. And also there’s a squid on it.
